There’s an intense sense of excitement in Mauritius now that the country is open for tourism. The reaction to the reopening of borders is the best news for almost every person you meet. Airport staff, taxi drivers, vendors, restaurant staff, hotel owners and staff all agree that they have missed showing off their country to tourists.

It’s lovely to see planes overhead, every flight is welcomed with smiles and waves! The crew are so pleased to be back at work once again. The arrivals terminal is filled with noise and colour as passengers are greeted with enthusiasm. Airlines advise they have added extra flights to schedules to keep up with demand and recommend people book flights early to avoid disappointment.

Chatter in hotels
Hotels on the island are no longer quiet, there is chatter in the afternoon sunshine on the beaches as guests enjoy the fresh sea breeze and refreshments. Everyone is excited that there is a demand for holidays in Mauritius and feel confident that hotels will be close to full very soon. Some hotels are seeing a 70% occupancy for December and are telling people to not wait, but book their accommodation as soon as possible!
