On Wednesday 18 July 2018 the Nigerian Minister of State for Aviation, Mr Hadi Sirika enthusiastically unveiled Nigeria’s new national airline at the Farnborough International Air Show in London. The new airline will be known as Nigeria Air, nearly 15 years after the previous state-run airline, Nigerian Airways ceased operations.
The minister explained that naming the airline was a fun and creative exercise with input from young Nigerians. The name was chosen after Nigeria’s Ministry of Aviation invited Nigerian youth and students to contribute ‘their ideas and creativity in developing the new Nigerian Flag carrier’, according to the website nameyourairlinenigeria.com.
…to be launched by the end of 2018
Nigerians can’t wait for operations of the airline to be launched by the end of 2018. The airline is primarily owned and managed by a group of unidentified private investors who are confident that the new carrier will be a sturdy and efficient enterprise.
