What are you doing for fun?

While traveling for fun is currently not a choice we have, we were wondering what you are doing for fun while at home.

Small discoveries
We have changed our routines during lockdown and have made some small discoveries during this time. While stretching our legs and walking around the block every day we noticed little details not seen before; a fake painted door on a building around the corner and a house with old candle holders that were once used as part of the street lighting.

“Don’t let the lockdown slow you down.”

Don’t let the lockdown slow you down, here are a few family activities for you to participate in while at home. Children are probably the most creative and attention-seeking creatures during this time; enjoy these fun activities with them while keeping them busy.

Arts and crafts
Collect all the unused arts and crafts equipment lying around and bring out the artists in the family. You can paint portraits of each other, knit something or make something with paper clips and unused cardboards. There is so much you can do, don’t worry if you feel nervous, you will get inspiration from each other.

An indoor garden
You can start a mini-garden at home; all you need is basic farming tools and a few seeds!  When you visit the grocery store purchase veggies and spices that are suitable for your new home garden. Get creative with the seeds!

A home-made movie
Yes, you can create your own family movie; simply gather and sort all your photos of the family and create an interesting slideshow that takes you through your travels together.  Unlock and ignite happy memories together; your slideshow will definitely bring smiles to everyone’s face.

A little home gym
Most gyms are closed but that shouldn’t stop you from keeping your children fit.  You don’t need any special equipment for this; just use what you have.  Use couch pillows as landing places for simple handstands and cartwheel exercises.  You can face two couches together to create a mini playground. Remember to keep a close eye on the little ones because they can get too creative!

Some puzzles and games
We are sure you’ve got a couple of games packed away somewhere, now is the time to bring them out and have a joyful fun day. Children love games and you can never go wrong with fun games that are stimulating and create a fun environment rather than a competitive one.

Until we can travel, have fun while you stay safe at home!

Blue and green travel nostalgia

While looking out the window at the beautiful blue sky and different shades of green, we realised these two colours have a tremendous effect on the mind and travelling.

“We absorb all that we can in the world. ”

Travel educates us about diverse cultures and ways of life. We absorb all that we can in the world; our view of the world isn’t always the same as everyone else’s, but we all have the pleasure of experiencing a wider view of our colourful world. Colours plays an important part in our longing to travel, especially blue and green.

Blue
The colour blue represents the sky and the sea, it’s associated with open spaces, freedom, imagination, expansiveness and inspiration. Blue also represents meanings of depth, trust, loyalty, sincerity, wisdom, confidence, stability, faith, heaven, and intelligence.

“. . . effects on the mind and the body . . . ”

The colour blue has positive effects on the mind and the body, it invokes rest and can cause the body to produce chemicals that are calming and exude feelings of tranquillity. Blue is cooling in nature, and helps with balance and self-expression. The colour blue in some cultures is significant in religious beliefs and brings peace and love.

The colour blue communicates significance, importance, and confidence.  Blue gemstones are believed to aid in creating calm and relaxation, they open the flow of communication between loved ones to feel genuinely inspired and to gain the courage to speak from the heart.

Green
The colour green is the colour of life, nature, and energy. It’s associated with meanings of growth, harmony, freshness, safety, fertility, and environment.

‘…growth, harmony, freshness…’

The colour green has a healing power and is understood to be the most restful and relaxing colour for the human eye to view. Green helps enhance vision, stability and endurance because we as humans are so used to seeing it everywhere.

The colour green signifies new growth and rebirth, common in the spring season. Green is soothing, relaxing, and youthful. Green also brings with it a sense of hope, health, adventure, and renewal. Green gemstones are believed to help create balance, promote change or growth, and increase feelings of hopefulness and optimism.

Have a look outside and enjoy the beautiful combination of greens and blues that surround us!

Inspire, empower and celebrate our Nation

As lockdown relaxes around the world, we need to be watchful of our responsibilities. As small freedoms come we will be able to do a little more, stretch our legs and shop for more than essentials at the grocery stores.

Yes we are excited and rightly so but we must remember the small freedoms we are being blessed with must be treated with respect and we must follow COVID-19 rules.

Hand washing and masks
COVID-19 is very real, we must all take every precaution to protect ourselves and everyone around us. We can do this by continuing to wear masks and washing our hands. We must maintain good physical distance from others.

‘…take precaution to protect…’

It is important to have a few masks that you can wash immediately after use.  Remember when wearing a mask to not touch your face or the mask, don’t move your mask around on your face, wash your hands before and after removing your mask. Do not share your mask with anyone and when removing it do so from the straps behind your ears. Wash your hands as soon as you get home, it should be the first thing you do before greeting anyone; be sure to wash past your wrists.

Follow the law and stay at home if you can
Although lockdowns are easing, we need to remember why we should stay at home.  It isn’t punishment, it is to help save lives. It is important to understand that the virus can’t spread if it doesn’t have people to live in.

‘…familiarise yourself with the rules…’

As industries start to open again, we need to remain as healthy as possible.  You don’t want to become ill at this time; that will add to your stress levels.  Familiarise yourself with the rules of each stage of lockdown and ensure you abide by them.  Remember that nobody is above the law and we should discourage any behaviour that could put others at risk.

You know that exciting feeling of anticipation that something important is going to happen; the excitement of seeing a loved one after a long time of separation.  These feelings take us to memorable beautiful places we know are worth waiting to visit or see again.
